Rebar couplers are used in reinforced concrete structures to replace normal rebar lap joints. The couplers are also suitable for use in reinforced concrete columns and walls. Each rebar coupler consists of a piece of rebar equipped with a thread and coupler sleeve at the right end as viewed in the direction of installation. In construction joints, rebar couplers can be used to replace all pieces of rebar going through the formwork.

Cost Comparison

Although the advantages of mechanical splices are well recognized, a major concern has been their high cost for applications where the codes permit the use of lap splices. But is the perception that mechanical splices cost more than lap splices a reality? By using couplers, contractors can be more cost efficient, able to achieve from 20-50% of cost savings compared to lap splicing. Apart from that there are many other savings which can be anticipated such as;

Reduction no. of joints

6 meters length will be most ideal for joining and this would result in reduction of no. of laps by,

Assuming height of building: 100 metres

Typical floor height: 3.2 metres

No. of laps: 100 / 3.2 = 31 laps

No. of coupler joints: 100 / 6 = 16 joints


Therefore reduction in no. of laps: ((31-16)/31) x 100% = 48%

Standard Coupler            SST Coupler

The standard or right threaded coupler is proposed as the most widely used in every part of the concrete structure. This type of coupler is used in place that at least one of rebar is able to be rotated. Internal thread of the coupler is right hand and complete part of thread on the rebar shall be fastened inside the coupler.  We can provide this type of coupler from 16 mm up to 50 mm and any other request of customers is possible for the production of coupler solid steel bar (DIN 1.1191) is used as raw material. Universal and CNC machine tools is used in production line. At each stage of production, QC department controls coupler specified dimensions and after confirmation of complete manufacturing process in the first step the couplers are transferred to the next step. The couplers quality meets the Iran national building regulations and international codes and standards such as ACI 318, DIN1045 and BS 8110.

1-First move the plastic protection cap of rebar threads, then fasten the coupler on the threads by hand.

2- Move the plastic protection cap of the coupler.

3-Fasten the second threaded rebar to the coupler by hand.

4- Fastening the last threads on the rebars to the coupler is needed, so you can use suitable wrench.

5-When no thread of rebar is seen out of coupler the process is finished.   For checking easily the finished fastening process mark the red color on the couplers.

Terminator Coupler                  STE Coupler            


This coupler replaces conventional hooked reinforcing bar also simplifies reinforcing bar placement and lowers placing costs. Head area of this coupler exceeds 5 times bar area (net force bearing area is 4x) according to the cone shape shearing theory so using of this coupler  reduces the Ldt (embedment length of the rebar) couplers meet requirements  of ACI318-08 section 12.6.

Thread lock coupler               STL Coupler

STL coupler is a unique  product and makes construction out of deadlock .This coupler is only solution for the short length of rebar when rebar’s’ length is less than 20cm.There are some bolts that hold the rebar firmly inside the coupler and the opposite side of coupler is threaded same as SST coupler that rebar is fastened inside it Caprina provides couplers from 16 mm  to 50 mm and other  sizes according to customers’  need is available. The solid round steel DIN 1.1191 is used for producing the couplers. Universal and CNC machines are used to produce the couplers. The QC department controls the quality in each step of production line. The couplers pass the  international codes and standards such  as ACI318,

ACI349,ACI352,BS8110 and DIN1045.


Transition Coupler    STR Coupler 

This coupler with two different sizes on the coupler connects rebars with different sizes.SAHAND produces the couplers according to the customer needs but STR coupler is always available if difference of diameter of rebars is only one step in their sizes . SAHAND produce couplers from 20 to50mm .The solid round steel DIN 1.1191 is used for the couplers. Universal and CNC machines are used to produce the couplers  .

Weld-to-Rebar Coupler        SWR&SWW  Coupler

This coupler is produced in  two  types. firs type must be welded to the rebars (SWR) on one side and the second side is threaded , so the threaded rebar will be fasten on this side. the second type of coupler must be welded to the rebar on both side of coupler (SWW). Swr and sww couplers are welded directly to the rebars and bear specified ultimate strength of rebar same as other Caprina couplers. This coupler is  used in application in which rebars are shorter than the length is needed for lap splices also can be used instead of stl coupler comparing to the stl coupler the price is very cheaper. Caprina’s suggestion is using this coupler for rebars bigger than 25mm.For getting best result, welding process of this coupler must be according to Caprina welding instructions. It is a must to use professional and certified  person to  weld the couplers.

Weld-to-Structure Coupler       SWS Coupler

Due to facing problems in process of rebar welding directly to the steel structures and not any guarantee of quality in welded area, Caprina provided special coupler that is weldable to the steel structure. This coupler is use to connect rebar  to the
steel structure No pre-heating needed before welding the coupler. Welding must be done according to   the manual inside coupler package.
The solid steel bar  is used for producing is  DIN 1.1141 and 1.1151 and CNC machines are used to produce the couplers. The QC department controls the quality of couplers  in each  step of production line ,the couplers pass the international codes and standards,ACI318,ACI349, BS8110and DIN1045.
